Employee Spotlight: Clara Penner

One of our staff who helps create the warm, inviting atmosphere in the store on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and sometimes Fridays is Clara Penner. While she may not share her smile with you at the counter, she comes in long before the rest of us to begin making bread which smells oh-so-good when you enter the store.

Clara came to Prairie Harvest In September of 2006 bringing over 50 years' baking experience. She says she likes to work at Prairie Harvest because it's a friendly place. Her favorite product in the store is Elderberry Juice Concentrate which she credits for keeping her strong and healthy. "I haven't caught the flu or a cold since I started taking it and that's pretty good for someone born in 1925," said Clara. cases or 25 lbs. bulk products receive 10% discount?

When not at Prairie Harvest, you might find Clara in her garden or yard. The dandelions don't stand a chance if she works as hard in her yard as she does on our bread.

We will be taking special orders for zweiback for family gatherings such as Easter dinner.

We, at Prairie Harvest, strive to daily do our part to care for our earth and conserve our natural resources. Some of the things we do to achieve this are:
  • Selling products that feature minimal or no packaging
  • Composting and recycling
  • Selling local and Kansas products to reduce fossil fuel use transporting products
  • Selling organic products to save our topsoil, waterways, and biodiversity

Road Less Travelled to perform April 26

Doug and Jude Krehbiel will perform at Prairie Harvest for Music and Art in the Heart of Newton on Thursday, April 26, 6:00-8:00 p.m. This duo plays several different instruments in a variety of musical styles combining elements of folk, country, Irish, bluegrass and rhythm and blues. A generous sprinkling of humor will accompany their music.

Quietly keeping rhythm as they weave wheat will be artists Martha and Marie Voth. They will demonstrate their wheat weaving techniques and display some current projects.

Prairie Harvest Deli will be serving our famous grilled chicken fajitas, 5-7 pm, or while they last. Join us on the sidewalk if weather permits, or inside under cover!
